Dr. Nina Van Volkinburg is a fashion academic, industry commentator, and Course Leader of MA Strategic Fashion Marketing at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London. Her work explores the business of fashion through the lens of marketing, consumer culture, and technology.

An ethnographer by training, Nina holds a PhD in Management Studies from the University of Exeter. Her research explores how technological and cultural change shapes consumer behaviour and value creation within fashion and the wider creative industries. Today, she brings this perspective across her teaching, research and industry commentary, making sense of how fashion is changing and what those changes mean for its future. At the heart of Nina’s work is a commitment to supporting the next generation of fashion changemakers, equipping young people with the knowledge, critical thinking and confidence to make a positive impact on the industry.

Nina is also the host of Fashion Means Business, the podcast from the Fashion Business School at London College of Fashion, featuring conversations with leading figures from across the global fashion industry and academia. Her analysis and commentary have been featured in Vogue, ELLE, ABC News, BBC World News and other international media outlets.

Before moving fully into academia, Nina founded and led RETURE, the world’s first digital platform dedicated to fashion upcycling, combining her interests in entrepreneurship, technology and more sustainable approaches to fashion.

She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE).
